The luminescence and thermal properties of the complex have been studied by fluorescence spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy. When 2 molecules in 1 were excited at 260 nm, the characteristic fluorescence of Tb^<3+> was remarkably enhanced compared to that of the excitation of Tb^<3+> at 376 nm, suggesting occurrence of efficient energy transfer from 2 molecules to Tb^<3+> ion. The complex melts to a mesophase at 211℃.
