They are market-oriented approaches for "customers" seeking better schooling for their children. Policy-makers believe competition and new approaches to education will force regular public schools to improve. The number of American families taking advantage of school choice in one form or another has increased recently. However, there is another alternative to public schools that goes beyond the realm of American school choice -- home schooling. The movement has burgeoned and now figures as a recognized alternative to public schooling.
