The diameter of the nozzle exit is 28mm and the exit velocity is 10.4m/s. In the experiment the screen is moved in the direction of the jet axis. The shear layer starts to oscillate periodically, and simultaneously a pure tone is generated due to the impingement of the jet upon the screen. This self-excited oscillation is produced because sound pressure is fed back so as to exert force on the unstable shear layer near the nozzle exit.
