They receive grants from the Civil Rights Office of the federal government. In order to attract students district-wide, they design unique curricula and have especially fine facilities, often more attractive than those available at ordinary public schools. The magnet school concept has become very popular in American public education. In this paper, we observe a typical school district where magnet schools enjoy a high reputation and the magnet program has been actively developed.
