And they are easier to understand when paraphrased. So I have paraphrased more as a continuation of my column in Memoirs of Nagano National College of Technology No.24, pp. 83-92. To dwell on each proverb, I have formed a system which has three phases. They are as follows. 1. The original proverb and its literal translation with some background information 2. A paraphrase of each proverb and amplification of its meaning 3. Remarks on its teaching or admonishment Using the above system, I have given the English interpretation of Japanese proverbs and their meaning as it relates to the English speaking world. I believe this system will help open the door to using Japanese proverbs both for communication and for teaching life values.}, pages = {81--90}, title = {日本語の諺の英語へのパラフレーズ}, volume = {28}, year = {1994} }
