As a matter of fact, many of his prose sentences sound like poetry. Consequently, it is possible to say that Thoreau is a poetic writer. Thoreau's primary concern at the commencement of his career as a writer was the study of the metaphysical poets such as George Herbert and Henry Vaughan and the creation of his own poetry, one example of which is \"Sic Vita.\" The peak of his poetic imagination was around 1841, even though his best poems called \"Orphics\" were created in 1843. After the peak, his position as a writer gradually changed from poetry to prose. Thoreau created more than two hundred poems in his youth. During his life, his poems were never ignored, nor always esteemed. However, by the turn of the century, in inverse proportion to his fame as an author of Walden, Thoreau the poet was forgotten and since then scant attention has been paid to his poems.
