The problem is how we should teach proverbs to impress on students their value or to make them realize a way of living through them. One way to attract students to the proverbs is to make them easier to understand. I have developed a system to describe each proverb. This system has three phases that are as follows. 1. The original proverb and a literal translation with some background information 2. A paraphrase of each proverb and amplification of its meaning 3. Remarks on its teaching or admonishment Using the system, I have given Japanese proverbs on English life.
