Two spramolecular polymers were obtained : 1 from MeOH solution, and 2 from DMF solution. ^1H NMR and elemental analysis showed that the stoichiometry was PyPN/TMA=1:3 for both 1 and 2. From FT-IR and XRD data, it seems that 1 and 2 have the same structure, an alternating sequence of one PyPN and three TMA molecules through hydrogen bonding between pyrudyl unit and carboxylic acid form a rod-shaped polymer with pendant carboxylic groups. In 2, DMF molecules were included at the ratio of DMF/[repeated unit]=1:1.
